At the heart of all four “Deep Black” watches is the OMEGA Master Chronometer calibre 8906. Resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss, the movement has been tested at the industry’s highest level, passing all 8 tests set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology … Omega watches were founded back in 1848, but it was not until 1903 that it went by the name Omega. Omega was going by the name of La Generale Watch Co instead. In 1918, the American Army decided that Omega watches would be the official timekeeper for their combat units, just like Britain’s Royal Flying Corps chose them the year before. So if you see a skeleton hand Seamaster Professional which appears to have a black dial or bezel, then there are only two explanations: you are misperceiving the color, or the watch is one of the counterfeit versions that were made in black — despite that being an inaccurate reproduction of the original watch. Omega’s line of water resistant watches dates all the way back to 1932, and the Seamaster name was introduced in 1947. Up through the 1960’s, the Seamaster models paralleled the traditional style of dress watches, such as the Omega DeVille (some were even labeled as a ‘Seamaster DeVille’).
